Installing sendmail on new sid systems is not as smooth as could be. 1. Doesn't sendmail depend on GNU `make' (which is NOT part of the m4 package)? The Makefile in /etc/mail certainly needs it. It is not currently listed as a sendmail dependency or a recommends. 2. The /usr/sbin/sendmailconfig script is broken. The problem is actually in /usr/share/update_db. The script doesn't run correctly on an initial install. I commented out Line 372, which reads: `rm /etc/mail/${mcfile}.cf.errors;' and the install went smoothly. Perhaps it assumes the existence of the *.cf.error file? Maybe the `set -e' causes problems? I am sorry I don't have time for further analysis. --- JPS -- System Information Debian Release: testing/unstable Architecture: i386 Kernel: Linux penguin 2.4.7 #2 Tue Jul 31 10:57:12 EDT 2001 i686 Locale: LANG=en, LC_CTYPE=en_US Versions of packages sendmail depends on: ii gawk 1:3.1.0-1 GNU awk, a pattern scanning and pr ii libc6 2.2.3-11 GNU C Library: Shared libraries an ii libdb3 3.2.9-11 Berkeley v3 Database Libraries [ru ii libldap2 2.0.11-2 OpenLDAP libraries. ii liblockfile1 1.03 NFS-safe locking library, includes ii libsasl7 1.5.24-6.1 Authentication abstraction library ii libwrap0 7.6-8.2 Wietse Venema's TCP wrappers libra ii logrotate 3.5.7-3 Log rotation utility ii m4 1.4-13 a macro processing language ii perl 5.6.1-5 Larry Wall's Practical Extraction
